Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island has 393 unique guest rooms each individually decorated by Carleton Varney. Themes have been based on historical figures, locations, and United States First Ladies. Guests can choose from interior or lake view, and from one-bedroom or suites to the private Masco Cottage. All rooms have individually controlled air-conditioning, cable TVs, coffeemakers, and a minibar. There is free WiFi throughout the hotel and extending onto the resort grounds.
Guests at Grand Hotel can stay active outdoors with activities such as 18-holes of golf on The Jewel, nine-holes of foot golf, tennis, swimming in the 220-foot-long serpentine-shaped pool, or lawn games in the Tea Garden. There are also opportunities for bicycling, horseback riding, Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, and shopping.
The gardens of Grand Hotel are legendary for a good reason. Guests are invited to take a stroll and enjoy the century-old lilacs, white cedar, and maple trees. They will be delighted with over 150 varieties of flowers that include roses, geraniums, lilies, daisies, and begonias.
For over 100 years Grand Hotel has been serving Afternoon Tea in the hotel’s parlor. Guests can enjoy tea, sherry or champagne while snacking on finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones or several other types of pastry while listening to a live music recital.
Dining at Grand Hotel is historic and traditional. So much so that guests in the Main Dining Room are asked to wear a coat and tie for gentlemen and a dress or pantsuit for ladies. Chef Hans Burtscher provides dishes created with fresh ingredients that complement the beautiful views of Mackinac Island. For a more casual eating experience, The Gate House is a short walk from Grand Hill and serves appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, entrees, and desserts on an outdoor patio or next to a warm fireplace.
